Bowers & Wilkins CT800
The Bowers & Wilkins CT800 range is their flagship theatre system range. Like much of Bowers & Wilkins' other integrated speaker systems, these speakers are designed to be concealed within home theatre cabinets. Once installed, these are practically invisible. Every detail of sound will be experienced, from the tiniest whispers to the loudest roars of a jet engine. The CT800 places the sound of a real cinema in your own home.
The CT800 series is a direct descendant of the 800 series, the resemblance is clear. The 800 series has become the reference speaker of choice for many professional studios, including the iconic Abbey Road studios. Now the CT800 brings range these world-leading technologies into your own home.
Groundbreaking drivers
Many of the CT800 speakers feature blue Aramid Fibre cone drivers for the bass/midrange. The material is specially designed to reduce standing waves, minimise colouration and leaves transients unblurred. This results in a remarkably clear sound. The midrange drivers also feature advanced motor systems that move the cone back and forth like a perfect piston.
Some bass drivers feature a Rohacell cone. Rohacell is a sophisticated material that is as rigid as it is light. This is ideal for bass drivers as maximum agility is required for truly magical results. Rohacell is a composite material made of a hard foam core sandwiched between two carbon fibre skins. This material, often used in aircraft and car making is super strong, yet also lightweight, making it perfect for bass frequencies.
Nautilus swirl tweeters
The CT800 speakers feature Bowers & Wilkins' groundbreaking Nautilus technology. The original Nautilus tubes use a spiralling, conch-like shape that drains away excess noise from the rear of the driver rather than allowing it to bounce around inside the cabinet. This results in almost zero colouration from the back of the speaker.
For the CT800 range this has been taken one step further. The singular long tube has been replaced with a shallow cup that has a series of smaller channels arranged in a whirl shape. Each portion of this whirl absorbs sound in much the same way as the original Nautilus tube.
More technological advances
Avoiding unnecessary vibrations and resonances is vital to a reference quality speaker system. This is why B&W use their own Matrix bracing system, an internal grid of interlocking cells. This skeleton dissipates forces around the cabinet and creates a solid and stable unit.
With the CT8 XO Mk2 you can customise the sound of your speaker system to suit your listening space and arrangement in the best way possible. This powerful unit is key to achieving the ultimate home theatre experience.
