The Black Lab cable uses the same conductors for the positive and ground connections. Under the 100% surface-covering foil shield is a bare conductor - exactly the same as the insulated center one. The conductor under the shield is dual-purpose, serving as a low-distortion audio connection and a drain wire connecting the shield to ground. Black Lab conductors use air-filled polyethylene foam insulation, since air absorbs almost no energy, and polyethylene does not create large losses and has a “forgiving” distortion profile. Due to the presence of air in the foamed polyethylene, the latter causes a much smaller effect of defocusing compared to other materials. Precision-manufactured, gold-plated plugs are carefully connected using the finest solder. AudioQuest's solder does not contain a lot of silver, as the more silver there is in the solder, the more difficult it is to get a good connection
