The two satellite speakers are mounted on magnetic swivel bases for ease of positioning and use Cabasse’s point source SCS technology, developed for the flagship La Sphère system. Cabasse says the coaxial drive units provide a wide and enveloping soundstage with high tonal accuracy, a wide sweet spot and transparency across the frequency ranges. These are matched with a modified version of the Santorin 21 subwoofer, now enhanced with the necessary electronics to stream the music and amplify the signal for all three speakers.
Set-up is easy with just four cables to connect: to the mains, satellite speakers and remote IR receiver. Simple push button WPS security allows instant connection to the wireless DLNA network so the system can be ready to go within minutes of unpacking.
The Stream 3 can also be connected to a wired LAN system and to Apple or Android smartphone or tablet devices via Bluetooth for wireless streaming. There’s a choice of analogue RCA inputs or a digital optical input to allow the Stream 3 to be connected to a TV to provide improved TV sound via its built-in Dolby Digital decoding circuits.
There’s a compact remote control for source selection, volume control and track selection or you can use the Cabasse Stream App available for iOS and Android devices. The app provides full control of source selection, management of digital media storage devices, creation of playlists and access to web radio stations via the built in vTuner.
The Stream 3 supports a wide range of file formats, including PCM, FLAC, WAV, WMA, AIFF, AAC and MP3 up to 24bit/96kHz, which should make it compatible with practically any digitally stored music collection held on a DLNA based network. Apple iTunes based music collections may also be played by connecting the Mac to the Stream 3 via Bluetooth.
